*disclosure: This is an excerpt from a journal I kept the second week of June 2020. I spent this week starting a journey to understand and educate myself on racism in America and world wide, to understand my own racism and to start to work that I will be doing everyday for the rest of my life. This was the start of my journey, I was (and am) still learning. I’m just sharing my process, in hopes that it helps. This isn’t meant as a manual and I’m not an expert…. this is meant to provoke thought, educational processes, and action. . Please read Days 1-6 first.
Day 7:
I woke up early today to listen to the wrap up discussion for this challenge. I was moved, energized, and feeling really ready to put some energy into what I was thinking about doing. I was really ready to front load some work on the blog, the posts, the research… So I did that, for an hour after the discussion, then I made coffee, got dressed, and got into a video chat with a friend. We spent 3 hours finishing up the blog. I then spent another several hours working on content.
After that, I took a little break before reading my essay for the day, sharing some voices, and then putting together a post explaining my planned silence for Monday, tomorrow, day 8.
Tomorrow is the 1 year anniversary of my dad’s passing. And so tomorrow will be a healing day for me, my grief, and a day to focus on my own shit.
