The Podcast Project: Cassie and Nick Show

I’m back, with less movement forward than I’d like, but new found topic ideas, name ideas, and thoughts. And perhaps most importantly a new found spark of excitement for this project.

Will start with the new topic ideas… some of which have merged and started to form into more cohesive and thoughtful ideas. I think I want to focus on more than just being a Millennial, but on being an Young Millennial. And I don’t think I will always be this narrow, but I think more often than not, on what it’s like to be a Young Millennial Female.

This focus comes from empowering experiences working with my cousin on a research project, from talking to my best friend about her life, and this wonderful community of women world wide that I’m tapping into a bit more each day.

Which brings me to what I think would make a really neat first episode if I can get my stuff together in a timely manner, interviews with the people I went to the Women’s March with in January of 2017, about what the last four years have been like… and what it feels like now, in a freshly post-Trump world.

While I’m quite sure I won’t be the only person who does something like this… It’s something that I think would kick off this hodgepodge of a podcast with a bang.

When it comes to the title…. I’m starting to wonder if simply calling it ‘The Podcast Project” isn’t the worst idea. But we can worry more about that later, for the second part of this update, I wanted to talk about the idea of The Cassie and Nick show.

A little over a year ago, the way our work schedules worked out, I often had about 20 or so minutes between getting out of work and when Nick got out. I would drive to his office and sit in the car for 20-30 minutes, then we’d make the 12 minute drive home together.

This started to become the best time in my day with school and work and the obnoxious time zone difference, to call my best friend. She and I would talk until Nick joined us, and then more often than not, she would stay on and listen, occasionally joining in, and Nick and I debriefed and chatted on the way home.

More often then not I think these conversations consisted of between two and five sassy remarks, one mildly offensive comment, some banter that ranged between asinine and loving, the daily ‘what’s for dinner’, and other tidbits about our days and evening plans. Sure, sometimes one comment or another would spark some intense and nuanced conversation. But mostly, it was just us.

This became an almost established ritual and my friend started calling those 12 minutes ‘The Cassie and Nick Show’, joking that it was like her very own podcast… Long before this my brain had toyed with the idea of a podcast and while I don’t think that a daily of even weekly installation of such a podcast is for very many people… she’s not the only friend now who has joined us for the homeward bound drive and enjoyed it. So maybe, perhaps…. making those honest drives, with the everyday conversations of two sassy people, who love each other very much, a part of the podcast, is a cool idea. Like a segment in a show.

More soon, in the next installment of The Podcast Project

  1. I love the idea for the first pod, and I also love the idea of the Cassie & Nick segment. I love the idea segments in general. I think because you tend to get very serious and in depth with topics that you are passionate about, having more lighthearted content (think Jenna & Julien Podcast vibes) alongside that could be a fun idea. Loving the idea to call it The Podcast Project as well!
