Nick and I both really appreciate art… the art we appreciate is often very different from one another, but sometimes we find pieces that we both just completely fall for.
The first piece like that we found last year in an art gallery on the coast. It was beautiful painting of a girl with a puffin on her shoulder. We loved it, wanted it, and definitely couldn’t afford it. A few months later, we went back and it was gone… and while we knew we’d made the smart choice, I think we both regretted not taking taking the plunge, and we’ve said we won’t let it happen again. Of course I already messed it up again, an artist I loved did a show, I went to the wrong venue, swore I’d go the next weekend…. the artist died and it all sold out within hours.
Before we met Nick had started a collection of tiles… I have vintage blue glass. He’s got powder coated shelves, I’ve got an orange dresser. We have bits and pieces. We purchased a print of another painting we both liked. I purchased a tapestry I loved. Nick has been woodworking, bringing more handmade and funky vibes to our already eclectic space. But we have lots more wall space now and not nearly enough art to fill it.
So I find myself at a loss for ‘meantime art’… what do we put on the walls in the meantime? Do I use the silly doodles and art I’ve made? Do we hang up the TERRIBLE Bob Ross paintings we did? We can’t afford to buy all the perfect wonderful pieces now, but I don’t want to leave all the walls empty either.
We like nice art… We also like unique and homey art… but I don’t know where to find the abundant and beautiful art we need now. Send help!
