Lifestyle…
Style isn’t just about the hopefully timeless, beautiful closet. It’s about confidence, day to day living, and values. It’s a reflection of what you think is beautiful in the world. It’s on your body as you move through every day…. making it a part of every day and an influence on how your body feels.
As I look back on the last few years and when I have most been looking at my own style has been as I’ve addressed big life changes. From moving, to promotions, to mental health… it’s all there in my style. I used to think of that as a one way street. My life affected my style, but as I have been working on designing and decorating the interior of our new home, I’m realizing that that might not be true.
I’m realizing that if I set myself up for success with the design… If I use the space, colors, lighting, and textures to set the tone as opposed to the life inside it setting the tone for those things …. I am often more successful. Sure, what you want to use the space for is important. But letting Nick’s messy cooking or my abundance of bathroom products set the tone, only reinforces those things.
So I’ve taken lessons from style and put them into design, and lessons from design and put them to style. It’s all a beautiful blend that is lifestyle. Eh, this is a bit fluffy… but it’s true. I’ve been taking another Masterclass on interior design and I ‘m excited about the change that it will have on both my interiors but also my closet!
I’m hoping that as I look at my mood boards and the girl I’ve created, that is truly who I want to present… I can also look and say, what would her space be like? What does she want and need from her space? I can use this more sustainable, more art forward, more organized and sleek closet… to help person, to help space, to help life…. be more of those things too.
