Adventures in Cooking: Intoduction

I want to start cooking more… I have weird and messy relationship with food, and since writing and doing are the best ways I know to work through things, yet another strange and mismatched series is born.

I don’t know if so far I have completed a single series when I was planning on it… From one White Person to Another, was supposed be done by August; I finished it in November. #SecondhandSeptember, was as the name suggests, supposed to happen in September, but obviously I finished that in December after a hiatus from the blog. My work on The Podcast Project is slow and the Writing my Grief stuff may just be unending… What I guess I’m trying to say is that this may or may not meet any timeline I suggest, so I’m just not going to suggest one.

I have almost no doubt that over the course of this series I will tackle more in depth some of my food issues. The relation is fraught with diets, weight loss and gains, and other hiccups. It’s definitely complicated. I’m excited to explore it, but I don’t want it to be the focus of this… I love food. I enjoy food. Despite all the shit. And so I want to work on also enjoying the process of making it while hopefully also building a healthier relationship.

So here’s the quantifiable, measurable stuff… The goals:

  • Cook a minimum of two meals a week for the next 3 months.
  • Add 3 more recipes you LOVE to your recipe box.
  • Eat Vegan for 1 week.
  • Eat Vegetarian for 1 week.
  • Try at least 6 new recipes.
  • Each meal should have protein, veggies, and fruit.

In 3 months, we will see where we’re at and while I can’t promise I will write about this every week or even month, I can promise you will get at least one or two interesting posts out of this.

If you have a favorite recipe or trick for having fun in the kitchen, comment below! I need the help!

  1. Have a plan and know exactly what you’re going to make for the week. I feel like a lot of times if I don’t plan it out I just get overwhelmed and don’t enjoy the process. Try new recipes and make substitutions to make the recipes work more with your tastes! Ask your grandma for recipes!!
